This project, created in collaboration with the artist Ernests Vītiņš, whose glass sculpture is the central design element of the grave, is special in its character, lightness and delicacy. Having seen the finished glass sculpture, it was not easy to devise the rest of the grave landscaping design, but we hope we have succeeded, as people's comments and admiration suggest. The entire grave was laid out in light grey Scandinavian Kuru Grey granite, and the heavy granite borders set on posts look light and airy, gently surrounding the fragile figure of a mother made of stacked transparent glass.
The design of the grave also takes into account the heavy loads, the technical requirements and the heavy glass sculpture resting on a slender base, together forming a harmonious, gentle yet durable structure. The grave is completely covered with polished granite floors raised on a platform. The perimeter of the grave is enclosed by a granite fence raised on granite posts. In the central part of the grave, at the foot of the sculpture, there is a pedestal bearing gilded bronze letters with the name of the departed and her dates of birth and death, while the grave slab is formed by two monolithic granite slabs with a heart cut into the stone at their centre. Altogether this creates a moving, fragile and exceptionally refined image.
